For the next 7 days, I will be completing a devotion provided by YouVersion. The name of the devotion is “Finding Strength in Depression.” It is only seven days and offers some scripture that is thought provoking for anyone with Depression. As many of you have read, I have struggled with Depression for the majority of my life. It has found its place in my life as a pure struggle that honestly can sometimes be overwhelming. Everyday I get up in the morning and I put a smile on my face but underneath a blanket of despair holds me down. Many people may wonder why I am sharing this and making my study of this devotion so public on my blog, well, here is the answer. As a Christian Woman who deeply loves Jesus, I have seen many women struggle with depression in silence. Many Christian Women are silent because many might feel that they shouldn’t be struggling with depression. There is a misconception out there that when you are a Christian, God automatically heals us of things such as depression. I do believe that God has the power and authority to heal us of our wounds, However, I do believe that God allows us to struggle so that we can learn, teach, and assist others with their struggles. It is His people who God uses to bring glory to His name. I believe I am one of those people who God is using to bring a voice to something that is not always talked about and can be a taboo subject.
For the next week, I am going to be posting my thoughts, prayers, and insight on my journey through this devotion. I hope that it brings some comfort to those who have depression as well. It is not a fun thing to feel and I want other Women to know that they are not alone.
Thank you for allowing me to have a voice to reach out to others who are hurting. God, I know that you are using my hurts to help others. Yes, it is difficult but I know you are there. Please bless and comfort the many women who come across this blog series about depression. Help them hear your voice through my writing. Father God, I love you and in your precious name I pray, Amen.
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise HIM again-my Savior.” – Psalms 42:5
