Who We Are in Christ Series…. 1. “We Are Accepted”

Standard

John 1:12 “But all who receive him, he gave the right to become children of God, All they need to do was to trust him to save them”

We are children of God!  Did you know that?  Christ accepts all of us!  We don’t always accept ourselves the way God made us.  Often we have a tendency to want to change certain things on our body, about our personalities, or even our life.  For me, this is something I have struggled with.  Sure we all need to improve areas of our lives but we all do need to remember that God made us the way we are for a reason.  We are a reflection of him!  Ok, let me break this down because I know that it is completely easier said than done to accept yourself the way God created you.  I mean, lets face it, the world is cruel.  It is hard to accept yourself in a world that’s telling you that you need to change every aspect of yourself.  “Get LipoSuction!, You can lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks!, have wrinkles? Get some Botox?”  Where did our world go wrong?   I watched TV late one night because I couldn’t sleep and I literally could not find one infomercial or commercial that wasn’t about diets, changing the way you look, or changing something about yourself!  It drives me nuts seeing this and looking around and seeing women that are so amazing in every way,  struggle with themselves and not realize the beauty God has put in them!  So I am going to let you in on a little secret.  I am going to tell you how I have been working on learning to accept myself for me!  It is still definitely a work in progress, but I am worth it…because God says I am!

Step 1: START TALKING TO GOD!

-When I started to talk to God about all of the things I wanted to change about myself, I slowly started to see how small these things were and really how unimportant it was.  I realized even more that those things that I actually wanted to change, were things that God has used to help others.  Go figure!  My past pain and struggles he has turned into victories!  How awesome is that!  Keep talking to God about EVERYTHING!  All the insecurities….pain….everything! God is listening and wants to hear about it.

Step 2: STOP LOOKING AT ADS, COMMERCIALS, AND MAGAZINES THAT LIE!

-This is really a tough one for me…because I used to cut out images of women that I thought were the way I wanted to look and created a journal.  It was my thinspiration journal!  I know…pretty sick.  Anyways, I have stopped looking at the magazines that show unhealthy standards and have continuous articles about changing the way you look.  This has helped me a lot!  Throw them out!

Step 3:  WRITE DOWN POSITIVE THINGS!

– This may seem silly, but I still do it!  I try to list all of the positive things I am! I write things I like about my personality and character first…then I may even put down things like “I love my hair…”  well… I really do!  Try it! Do it once a week at the beginning of the week and read it everyday!

I promise that if you continue to do these things…. the unacceptable things about yourself…. God will show you that… they are Accepted in HIM!

Prayer: God, thank you for making us your children.  Your love is everlasting!  I pray that we all as women of God, your daughters can see what it means to be ACCEPTED in YOU!  Help each and every reader realize that the things they think need to be changed are really tools that YOU are going to do to create victory in their life and in others.  I pray this in your name.  Amen.
